Majority of Biden Voters Don’t Believe Marriage, Children Benefit Society

A poll from Pew Research Center found that the majority of Biden voters do not believe that getting married and having children benefits society.

Only 19% of those who support Biden believe marriage and children make society “better.”

Fifty-nine percent of Trump supporters say “society is better off if people make marriage and having children a priority,” according to the poll.

Across all U.S. registered voters, 39% think marriage and children should be a priority.

Nearly 60% of U.S. voters believe other priorities should be had instead of families.

The poll comes as the U.S. birth rate is at a historic low.

The fertility rate was 54.4 births per 1,000 women between the ages of 15-44, a 3% decrease from 2022.

“Birth rates declined for females in age groups 15–19 through 35–39 and were unchanged for females ages 10–14 and for women ages 40–44 and 45–49 in 2023,” the report noted.

Between 2015 and 2020, childbirth rates declined about 2% each year. Between 2019 and 2020, birth rates decreased by 4%.

Pew Research Center also noted that 43% of voters believe it is “neither good nor bad” that fewer children are being born. Twenty-two percent of voters believe the declining fertility rate is “good” for society.

Trump-supporting men are most likely to view this trend as negative for society (56%).
