Food giant PepsiCo announced that popular snack items will receive alternative options made without artificial flavors and dyes.
PepsiCo launched a new snack line called “Simply NKD,” described as a “reinvention of iconic Doritos and Cheetos flavors — now made with no artificial flavors or dyes, and completely colorless.”
“Rest assured, our iconic Cheetos and Doritos remain unchanged. NKD is an additive option, not a replacement, introduced to meet consumer demand,” Rachel Ferdinando, CEO of PepsiCo Foods U.S said in a statement. “This move underscores our commitment to flavor leadership, demonstrating that our taste remains strong even without visual cues. As part of our broader transformation, we are expanding choices while still protecting our iconic brands. More choices, same flavor, same brand power.”
Similarly, Hernán Tantardini, CMO of PepsiCo Foods U.S., said, “No color, no artificial flavors, same intensity — that’s Simply NKD. Doritos and Cheetos are pioneering a snacking revolution, or a renaissance, if you will.”
Tantardini explained that PepsiCo is “reinventing our iconic — and most famous — brands to deliver options with the bold flavors fans know and love, now reimagined without any colors or artificial flavors.”
The Simply NKD Doritos flavors include Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch, while Cheetos options include Puffs and Flamin’ Hot.
In-store availability of the foods is expected on December 1.
Earlier this year, PepsiCo Inc. Chair and CEO Ramon Laguarta said in a conference that the company has been “leading the transformation of the industry now for a long time on sodium reduction, sugar reduction and better fats.”
