A Los Angeles resident has been diagnosed with measles, officials said. The individual, who remains unidentified, is the county’s first resident to be diagnosed with measles in 2025.
The individual may have been exposed to measles on China Airlines flight CAL8/CI8 that arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), departing from Taiwan, on March 5.
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health noted that those who were at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B) at the Los Angeles International (LAX) Airport on March 5, Cloud 9 Nail Salon on March 7, and Superior Grocery Store on March 10 may have been exposed to measles.
Dr. Muntu Davis, the Los Angeles County health officer, urged residents to receive the measles vaccine, saying in a statement that the county’s case “highlights how important it is for anyone who has not been immunized to get the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.” Davis added that measles “spreads easily through the air and on surfaces, and a person infected with measles can pass it on to others before they feel sick or have symptoms. Young children and those who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems are at a higher risk for life-threatening complications from infection. Getting the MMR vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and stop the spread of this dangerous disease.”
The Virginia Department of Health also confirmed a measles case after an individual traveled through Washington Dulles International Airport on March 5.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has expressed concern for the developing measles cases across the United States, noting that both the vaccine and nutrition practices can provide defenses against the virus.
