Karoline Leavitt Defends Trump as Border Chaos Explodes

On this week’s broadcast of Sunday Morning Futures, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and emphasized his continued commitment to enforcing federal law.

During the interview, host Maria Bartiromo asked Leavitt whether new restrictions on Border Patrol were being considered following recent deadly incidents.

“Do you expect new restrictions on Border Patrol? What can you tell us in terms of the results here, given that two people are dead, even though the president is trying to weed out criminality in this country and you’ve seen this resistance?” Bartiromo asked.

Leavitt said the White House remains open to discussion but made clear that Trump will ultimately decide on any policy changes.

“The White House and the president are open and willing to listen,” Leavitt said. “The president said aboard Air Force One last night that those conversations and discussions will continue.”

She noted that the administration recently invited moderate Democratic senators to the White House to address their concerns.

“Last week, the White House invited moderate Democrat senators to come and discuss their concerns so that we could hear them out and see what they were trying to put on the table,” she said. “Unfortunately, that meeting was blocked by their leadership.”

Leavitt said conversations with lawmakers will continue moving forward but stressed that Trump’s position on immigration enforcement remains firm.

“Ultimately, the president will be the decider on any policy changes,” she said. “But what I know from talking with the president and seeing what this administration has done over the last year is that he is never going to waver in the commitment he made to nearly 80 million Americans.”

She added that Trump remains focused on deporting illegal immigrants who commit crimes after entering the country unlawfully.

“He is committed to deporting illegal alien criminals who broke our nation’s laws to get here and then committed further crimes of violence against American citizens,” Leavitt said.

The remarks come as the administration faces continued pressure from political opponents and activist groups to scale back immigration enforcement, while Trump and his allies argue that strong border security remains essential to public safety.
