The owner of the Los Angeles Times is looking to implement politically conservative voices on its editorial board.
LA Times owner Pat Soon-Shiong wrote on X, “I want [Scott Jennings] on our new editorial board!!! Growing the board with experts who have thoughtful balanced views and new candidates are accepting the challenge to join us! Way to go Scott and thanks for accepting @latimes @ScottJenningsKYStay tuned we are making this happen.”
The announcement follows the LA Times declining to endorse a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
Soon-Shiong explained why the paper did not make a presidential endorsement, saying that the editorial board was “provided the opportunity to draft a factual analysis of all the POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE policies by EACH candidate during their tenures at the White House, and how these policies affected the nation.”
“In addition, the Board was asked to provide their understanding of the policies and plans enunciated by the candidates during this campaign and its potential effect on the nation in the next four years. In this way, with this clear and non-partisan information side-by-side, our readers could decide who would be worthy of being President for the next four years.”
“Instead of adopting this path as suggested, the Editorial Board chose to remain silent and I accepted their decision,” he wrote.
Soon-Shiong recently told Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher that he wants “voices from all sides to be heard,” Mediaite reported.
“So, I’m looking for people like Scott Jennings. Scott Jennings who is on CNN and he’s one out of six usually in the — in the room where we need to have all voices, the right, the left, and the moderate, the center,” he added.
