Kristi Noem Robbed in DC—Here’s What Was Taken

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was robbed while dining at a Washington, D.C., restaurant on Sunday evening. The thief made off with sensitive personal and government items, prompting a federal investigation.

The incident occurred during dinner, where security footage later revealed a white male suspect wearing a medical mask stealing Noem’s bag. The contents included Noem’s DHS access badge, passport, driver’s license, apartment keys, medication, makeup bag, blank checks, and $3,000 in cash. Noem confirmed the incident during the White House Easter Egg Roll, stating the matter remains unresolved.

The Secret Service is reviewing surveillance footage and tracking financial activity for clues. DHS clarified that the cash was intended for family meals and Easter activities.

Authorities have not determined whether the theft was politically motivated. The robbery adds to growing concerns over rising crime in the nation’s capital. As of April 18, D.C. recorded over 3,100 theft incidents in 2025, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Secretary Noem has faced increased public scrutiny in recent months. In March, she drew media attention for a visit to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison, where the U.S. has transferred over 200 Venezuelan migrants. Her handling of immigration enforcement and public messaging has stirred internal tension within DHS.

Last week, Noem also canceled $2.7 million in federal funds to Harvard University for noncompliance with federal inquiries into illegal activities tied to student visa holders and pro-Hamas campus protests. President Donald Trump has warned the university could lose its tax-exempt status if it continues to defy oversight.

The Secret Service investigation into the theft is ongoing.
