The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson was held in Utah, where Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s accused killer will face Kirk’s family.
The Kirk family, his widow Erika, his parents Robert and Kathryn, and his sister Mary, released a joint statement on the matter.
“Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father. Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children,” the statement says. “We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives.”
“Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy as we navigate this process and immense grief.”
Former Utah Valley University Police Department officer Chris Bagley explained to the court that there was a definite “line of sight” from the tent where Kirk was located at the time of his assassination. “When I got up there and I could see this disturbance in gravel, to me it looks like a sniper pad. A person that has been laying in a prone position and you’ve got markings of elbows, knees and feet to where somebody was in the line of sight of where Charlie’s tent was,” Bagley added.
In May, prosecutors said they were prepared to proceed with the case. “The State has made this decision after concluding that the other evidence it intends to introduce is more than sufficient to establish probable cause for bindover,” prosecutors wrote, as reported by Fox News. “However, if the Court finds that the State’s introduction of that evidence at the preliminary hearing warrants a continuance, the State is prepared—in the interest of moving this case forward—to proceed with the preliminary hearing as scheduled without the DNA evidence. The State has made this decision after concluding that the other evidence it intends to introduce is more than sufficient to establish probable cause for bindover.”
