Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has launched a cooking show as part of his effort to Make America Healthy Again. The program, called “The Real Food Show,” featured Chef Andrew Gruel in its premier episode.
“Thanks to President Trump, we flipped the food pyramid and put real food back at the center of the American plate,” Kennedy wrote on X, announcing the show. “Now I’m traveling across America, connecting with renowned chefs to show families how to cook delicious, nutritious meals made with real ingredients at affordable prices. Let’s get cooking!”
The first episode featured Kennedy and Gruel making Alaskan salmon cakes with an apple, white bean, and arugula salad. They priced the meal at $4.91 per serving.
On choosing salmon for the meal, Gruel told Fox News Digital, “Salmon is also nutrient-dense, affordable (frozen is fine) and incredibly versatile. They’re a great example of how you can take a high-quality protein, combine it with a handful of simple pantry ingredients and create a meal that’s both satisfying and family-friendly.”
“Yes, you can absolutely make this meal for under $5 per serving, particularly when using canned or frozen wild Alaskan salmon,” he said. “One of the biggest misconceptions is that eating healthy is always more expensive, but with a few basic cooking skills and a little planning, real food is often more affordable than people think.”
Earlier this year, the Trump administration released new dietary guidelines that prioritized protect at every meal, encouraged full-fat dairy, a wholistic consumption of fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats from meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, olives, and avocados.
