President Trump nominated Kari Lake to be the U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica. “Kari Lake, of Arizona, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Jamaica,” a White House statement reads.
Lake thanked President Trump for the nomination. “Thank you to President Trump for nominating me to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica,” she wrote on X.
“Jamaica is a country I know very well, full of incredible people, and if confirmed by the Senate, I look forward to strengthening the partnership between our nations, advancing America’s interests abroad, and building on the deep friendship shared by the American and Jamaican people,” Lake said. “Honored to continue serving in this HISTORIC Administration!”
President Trump previously nominated Lake to direct the “Voice of America” (VOA) news agency. “I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in 2024. “She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.”
Lake, who sought political office in Arizona, announced in December 2024 that she would focus her attention on the Trump administration. “We’re not where we need to be on elections. And that’s one of the reasons I don’t want to run again, to be honest,” she said. “Why put yourself through that torture again? Thankfully, President Trump’s victory, it was too big to rig.”
