Jussie Smollett Releases New Song To Plead His Innocence Again

Actor Jussie Smollett, who was convicted on charges of a fake hate crime against himself, released a new song pleading his innocence, once again.

  • Smollett titled the song “Thank You God,” in which he says transphobia and homophobia were the reasons for staging a fake attack against himself in Jan. 2019.
  • “It’s like they’re hell-bent on not solving the crime, taking out the elements of race and trans and homophobia that’s straight taking lives,” Smollet says in the new single. “But turn around and act like I’m the one that killed the strides.”
  • The actor claims the song was “the best way I knew how” to articulate his thoughts over the ordeal.

BACKGROUND:
  • After police determined his reports of being attacked outside his Chicago apartment were false, Smollett was indicted in March 2019 on 16 counts of felony disorderly conduct.
  • The actor was convicted last month on five felony counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police, but only served less than a week of his 150-day sentence.
