MSNBC made the decision to pull the show ‘Morning Joe’ this week following the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
In fear that the show hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, would make ‘inappropriate comments’ on air, the network pulled the show and replaced it with live coverage in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
Co-hosts Scarborough and Brzezinski returned to their normally scheduled show Tuesday morning with a bone to pick with MSNBC.
On air Tuesday, the hosts commented on the matter, saying, “Next time we’re told there’s going to be a news feed replacing us, we will be in our chairs. Yeah. And the news feed will be us, or they can get somebody else to host the show.”
‘Morning Joe’ has been known for its blatant commentary on current events and breaking news, with the co-hosts being transparent in their dislike for former president Trump.
On air today, Brzezinski commented about the role ‘Morning Joe’ plays in the broader media realm claiming that for 17 years, it has been a place for “hard conversations in a civil way.”
“Now, more than ever, is a day, a time, that we would like to be on,” Mika went onto say.
Previous remarks made by the co-hosts stand in stark contrast to Mika’s comment today. Joe nad Mika have built a brand on ‘Morning Joe’ that is known for its deratgory coverage of Trump.
American TV personality, Donny Deutsch, who went on ‘Morning Joe’ in 2017, was given a platform to smear the president making comments such as, “He’s a pig, he’s a vulgar pig…he’s physically disgusting to look at, that’s what I find ironic.”
Scarborough and Brzezinski have not left it to their guests alone to smear the former president.
Former Republican himself, Scarborough changed his tune regarding Trump upon his appointment to president in 2016. After his appointment to office, co-hosts sparred back and forth at the expense of Trump on-air, saying:
“I think you said something before the show that really kind of like, summed it up. You said… [Trump is] like a kid pooping their pants and then saying, ‘I meant to do that,'” commented Brzezinski in 2017.
“Well, yes. It would be like somebody pooping their pants and then people looking at it and saying ‘oh that’s modern art, don’t you understand. I am making a statement against Russian aggression in Crimea. And so this is my statement, and if you don’t get it then there is something wrong with you, not me,'” replied Scarborough.
Scarborough and Brzezinski have done a great job of emulating surprise after being pulled off the air on Monday following the atrocious shooting on the Saturday before.
While the co-hosts have tried to salvage their reputation as a show for ‘civil’ coverage, their previous actions tell a different story.
MSNBC does not seem to buy the ‘civil’ act either, as they were the ones to pull the show on Monday, wary of what the couple would say on air during a time of political violence that requires unity rather than further division.
