Jewish Cemetery Vandalized With Swastika

A Jewish cemetery in Vienna, Austria, was vandalized with swastikas and the name “Hitler.”

The Kurier newspaper reported that the location was also set on fire.

“According to Deutsch, the anteroom of the ceremonial hall burned out. Swastikas were sprayed on exterior walls. No one was injured and the amount of property damage cannot currently be quantified,” the outlet wrote.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer tweeted that he “strongly condemn[s] the attack on the Jewish cemetery in Vienna.”

“Anti-Semitism has no place in our society and will be fought with all political and constitutional means. I hope the perpetrators will be identified quickly.”

Rabbi Schlomo Hofmeister said, “The desecration of Jewish cemeteries is one of the most cowardly and disgusting forms of anti-Semitic violence,” adding, “The arsonists left behind beer bottles and swastikas. I hope we don’t hear anyone using the words ‘rascals’, ‘isolated case’ or ‘Halloween’ to ‘explain’ anything here.”

According to the European Conservative, the Vienna police issued a statement on the matter, saying, “After the fire in the Jewish part of the cemetery in Simmering and the spraying of an outer wall with National Socialist symbols, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is already intensively investigating.”

The police noted they were “focusing on the protection of Jews living in Austria.”
