Jan. 6 Defendants Have Combined 847-Year Prison Sentence

Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) has sentenced the January 6, 2021, Capitol event defendants to a combined 847-year prison sentence.

The sentences are between more than 450 defendants, according to information reviewed by the Washington Examiner.

While some of the sentences are only a few days, others have received 22 years in prison.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who was charged with seditious conspiracy for organizing a group at the Capitol despite not being there himself, received a 22-year sentence.

Proud Boys co-defendants Zachary Rehl, Joe Biggs, and Ethan Nordean have received between 15 and 18 years in prison.

In a statement released on December 6, the DOJ said, “Under the continued leadership of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the FBI’s Washington Field Office, the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the attack continues to move forward at an unprecedented speed and scale.”

“The Department of Justice’s resolve to hold accountable those who committed crimes on January 6, 2021, has not, and will not, wane,” the DOJ declared.

The DOJ arrested more than 1,200 people in “nearly all 50 states and the District of Columbia,” the statement adds.

Discussing the criminal charges of the defendants, the DOJ states that 444 people have been charged with “assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees,” including about 120 individuals who have been “charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer.”

About 1,160 people have been charged with “entering or remaining in a restricted federal building or grounds,” the DOJ describes. “Of those, 114 defendants have been charged with entering a restricted area with a dangerous or deadly weapon.”

American Faith reported that the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in an appeal case relating to January 6 that could overturn charges for hundreds of defendants.

The court will review a charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, according to the Associated Press, that has been brought against more than 300 people, including Donald Trump.

A decision on the case is expected by summer 2024.
