Jack Smith Targeted Election Challenger in Unearthed Document

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith subpoenaed the phone records of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline after he challenged the 2020 election results. The subpoena was part of the Arctic Frost investigation and sought the “subscriber information, names, addresses, records for inbound and outbound calls, text messages, and voicemails, as well as the ‘[m]eans and source of payment,'” to Verizon.

The subpoena also sought phone numbers linked to Kline’s account, as well as the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses he used.

The Tennessee Star obtained records from Verizon informing the Kline family of the matter.

Kline, now a law professor at Liberty University, previously led the Amistad Project of the Thomas Moore Society during the challenges to the 2020 election. The Amistad Project planned lawsuits challenging the election’s results, the outlet reports.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) previously made public nearly 200 subpoenas issued by Smith and his team as part of their case against President Trump. The 197 subpoenas, obtained by Grassley through whistleblower disclosures, were sent to 34 individuals and 163 businesses. The records also named at least 430 Republican individuals and entities.

“Arctic Frost was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus,” Grassley said during a press conference. “Contrary to what Smith has said publicly, this was clearly a fishing expedition.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi also shared last year that Smith took “unprecedented” action in his investigation into President Trump. “During the Arctic Frost Investigation, we found that Special Counsel seized President Trump’s government-issued phone,” Bondi shared on social media. “This means the Biden Administration turned over President Trump’s phone to Special Counsel—an UNPRECEDENTED action.”
