Iowa Caucus Sets $120 Million Record in Ad Spending

Political action committees (PAC) and Republican candidates spent a record breaking $120 million in advertising in Iowa ahead of Monday’s caucus.

Nearly $84 million was spent by the top three candidates, former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, making it the most expensive ever in the state.

Trump entered the caucus with 52.7% support, Haley at 18.7% and DeSantis in third with 15.8%.

“Judging by the number of ads placed in Iowa and New Hampshire, Trump’s campaign is not taking those states for granted,” Wesleyan Media Project co-director Michael Franz said.

The PAC representing Haley, Americans for Prosperity Action, hired a staff and volunteer corps of 150 to knock on doors in the freezing temperatures prior to Monday.
