IDF Attacks Hamas Stronghold Amid Global Outcry

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched renewed operations this weekend in northern Gaza, advancing into the Jabaliya area — a known Hamas stronghold near Gaza City — despite escalating international accusations that Israel’s military campaign amounts to “genocide.”

Footage released by the IDF shows troops from the 401st Brigade, operating under the 162nd Division, targeting terrorist infrastructure both above and below ground. Jabaliya, largely untouched in earlier phases of the war, has become the focus as Israeli forces seek to dismantle what remains of Hamas’ operational capabilities.

In a statement, the IDF said its troops are working to “further degrade the military capabilities of the Hamas terrorist organization” and prevent fighters from re-establishing themselves in cleared areas. They reported the discovery of an underground terror tunnel, elimination of Hamas operatives, and destruction of a military planning structure.

This renewed offensive comes as Israel faces mounting criticism from global bodies and human rights groups. These groups have accused Israel of committing genocide, citing high casualty figures in Gaza. However, they fail to account for the complexities of urban warfare against a terrorist organization that routinely hides among civilians and uses human shields. Media claims of widespread starvation have also been widely discredited amid ongoing aid deliveries.

The IDF continues to avoid full-scale operations in sections of Gaza City where around 50 Israeli hostages are still believed to be held, possibly including 20 still alive. While Israel remains committed to rescuing the hostages, military commanders have indicated that the mission to defeat Hamas takes precedence unless a viable deal emerges.

Despite the international pressure, Israel has made clear it will not halt its mission. The dual objectives — eliminating Hamas and rescuing hostages — are being pursued simultaneously, even as their paths occasionally conflict.
