ICE Arrests Illegal Alien Linked to 2014 Death of Texas Girl

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents under the Trump administration have arrested an illegal alien fugitive tied to the 2014 death of 13-year-old Chrishia Odette in Burleson, Texas. The suspect, 46-year-old Ramiro Guevara of Mexico, was apprehended last week. He had been wanted on two outstanding warrants and was under a final order of removal from a federal immigration judge.

The fatal incident occurred on the night of September 12, 2014. Chrishia’s father had dropped her off for a sleepover. Just thirty minutes later, he received a phone call that would change his life. Chrishia had been struck by a vehicle and rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to law enforcement accounts shared with her father, Chrishia was crossing an intersection when she dropped her phone. As she turned back to retrieve it, she was struck by a man driving without a license. The man allegedly responsible was Ramiro Guevara, then 36 years old. At the time, he had two outstanding warrants: one for driving without a license and another for speeding, both dating back four years.

Despite the deadly crash, Guevara was released from police custody that same night and has never been charged in Chrishia’s death. The lack of charges and continued freedom of the driver left Chrishia’s father, Chris Odette, in a ten-year pursuit of justice.

In August 2017, a federal immigration judge issued a final deportation order against Guevara. Since then, ICE agents had been seeking his arrest. His recent capture ensures that he remains in ICE custody pending his deportation from the United States.

The case underscores ongoing concerns over public safety, law enforcement cooperation, and border enforcement. It also highlights the long-term pain endured by American families impacted by crimes committed by individuals unlawfully present in the country.
