ICE Agent Charged with Assault

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent has been charged with two counts of assault related to an incident in Minnesota.

The agent, Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr., is accused of pointing his gun at the heads of two people in another car.

Morgan “is the first federal agent charged in connection with what happened here in Operation Metro Surge,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in announcing the charges, as per CNBC. “Is it the first case of its kind nationally? We believe it is,” Moriarty noted.

“Mr. Morgan’s conduct was extremely dangerous,” the prosecutor added. “The people in the vehicle had no idea he was a federal agent until a state trooper told them that. There was nothing that they did that justified Mr. Morgan’s actions.”

“There is now a warrant for his arrest. That warrant is nationwide,” she stated. “ICE should make arrangements for him to turn himself in. That warrant will remain out there until we get him in custody.”

Moriarty recently created the Transparency and Accountability Project (TAP), an effort aiming to “collect and assess evidence submitted by the public of potentially unlawful behavior by federal agents.” The portal allows residents to upload photos, videos, and details of any incident involving federal officers.

“Make no mistake, we are not afraid of any legal fight,” she said in March. “But we will do this ethically, responsibly, and vigorously. TAP is fundamental to our efforts to ensure the transparency and accountability that our community deserves. This is just the beginning.”
