HUD, DHS End Taxpayer-Funded Housing for Illegal Immigrants

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner announced a partnership with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to end the taxpayer-funded housing for illegal immigrants.

“We’re here signing a partnership to ensure that the wasteful misappropriations that have been going to assist the illegal aliens in our country will no longer go to assist them but instead to assist the American people, in particular as it pertains to housing,” Turner said in a video statement.

Noem explained that the Biden administration “prioritized illegal aliens over American families.”

“This memorandum is going to be a partnership that we will form to make sure that these housing programs are going to only people who deserve it, people who are in this country that need assistance, that want a better life for their family,” Noem said.

Under the new agreement, HUD will provide a full-time staff member to assist at the Incident Command Center (ICC) and establish an “interagency partnership to facilitate data sharing and ensure taxpayer-funded housing programs are not used to harbor or benefit illegal aliens,” a press release for the partnership says.

The memorandum states that the partnership is intended to “advance President Trump’s promise to protect critical taxpayer-funded housing programs designed to assist American citizens.”

“By working more closely together and with greater collaboration, we will identify illegal aliens who are ineligible for Federal housing assistance and take remedial measures to end this waste and abuse, including referral for immigration enforcement actions,” it reads.

An estimated 59% of illegal immigrant households in the U.S. use at least one welfare program, according to 2022 data reported by the Center for Immigration Studies.
