Lawmakers Probe Communist-Linked Funding of Riots

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-KY), Taskforce on the Declassification of Federal Secrets Chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have initiated an investigation into Neville Singham, a billionaire with connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The Republicans have formally requested information about his connections to the Party for Socialism and Liberation, a group linked to the riots in Los Angeles.

“Your connection to the PSL is concerning not only because of its role in the ongoing riots, but also because of the PSL’s China ties and other recent activities,” the lawmakers wrote. The letter then noted Singham’s residency in China and his “long track record of assisting far-left groups, such as Code Pink, that oppose U.S. interests and support U.S. adversaries.”

The lawmakers also sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, requesting a briefing on Singham. “We request that the Department of Justice (DOJ) provide a briefing on its efforts to investigate whether certain far-left entities, organized and funded by Neville Roy Singham, may have engaged in activities at the behest of Beijing, requiring registration and disclosures under [the Foreign Agents Registration Act].” They further warned that Singham “may have acted as an agent for the CCP.”

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has also launched an investigation into riot funding, accusing the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) of providing “logistical support and financial resources” propelling the unrest.

“Let me be clear: bankrolling civil unrest is not protected speech,” he wrote. “It is aiding and abetting criminal conduct.”
