The Department of Homeland Security released a list of every sanctuary city and county in the United States refusing to cooperate with ICE.
The comprehensive list complies with President Trump’s executive order directing the Attorney General and Homeland Security Secretary to “publish a list of States and local jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration laws.” The list will be updated as necessary.
“These sanctuary city politicians are endangering Americans and our law enforcement in order to protect violent criminal illegal aliens,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement. “We are exposing these sanctuary politicians who harbor criminal illegal aliens and defy federal law. President Trump and I will always put the safety of the American people first. Sanctuary politicians are on notice: comply with federal law.”
The areas listed will be notified of their non-compliance with the law.
President Trump’s order states that violating federal immigration law is a “lawless insurrection” against the government’s responsibility to “defend the territorial sovereignty of the United States.”
“Beyond the intolerable national security risks, such nullification efforts often violate Federal criminal laws, including those prohibiting obstruction of justice, unlawfully harboring or hiring illegal aliens, conspiracy against the United States, and conspiracy to impede Federal law enforcement,” it says. “Assisting aliens in violating Federal immigration law could also violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.”
“Some measures to assist illegal aliens also necessarily violate Federal laws prohibiting discrimination against Americans in favor of illegal aliens and protecting Americans’ civil rights,” the April order declares.
