The majority of House Democrats voted against a resolution condemning the attack in Boulder, Colorado.
While the resolution passed 280-113, every vote against the bill came from a Democrat. One Republican, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), voted “present.” Only 75 Democrats voted in support of the resolution.
The resolution, introduced by Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO), states that the “case of Mohammed Sabry Soliman highlights the need to aggressively vet aliens who apply for visas to determine whether they endorse, espouse, promote, or support antisemitic terrorism or engage in other antisemitic or anti-American activity” and that the event “demonstrates the dangers of not removing from the country aliens who fail to comply with the terms of their visas.”
The document goes on to affirm that “free and open communication between State and local law enforcement and their Federal counterparts remains the bedrock of public safety and is necessary in preventing terrorist attacks” and “expresses gratitude to law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, for protecting the homeland.”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) condemned Evans, stating, “Who is this guy? He’s not seriously concerned with combating anti-Semitism in America. This is not a serious effort. This guy’s going to be a one-term member of Congress.”
He claimed that Evans is a “complete and total embarrassment.”
In response to Jeffries’ comment, Evans said, “I served our nation in uniform in the Middle East, as a cop in Colorado, & now as a Congressman.”
“This wildly offensive sentiment from Democrats’ Leader is why antisemitism persists. The Left is unserious about finding real solutions,” he added. “Condemning terrorism is not a joking matter.”
