‘How Come Migrants Are Allowed To Come In Unvaccinated, But World-class Tennis Players Are Not?’: Doocy to Jean-Pierre (Video)

Reporter Peter Doocy asked White House Press Secretary to explain why migrants don’t have to be vaccinated but tennis star Novak Djokovic does.

QUICK FACTS:
  • “How come migrants are allowed to come into this country unvaccinated, but world-class tennis players are not?” Fox’s Doocy asked Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
  • Jean-Pierre’s answer was vague: “The U.S. government cannot discuss the details of individual visa cases,” she responded.
  • Doocy then asked the press secretary why “Somebody unvaccinated comes over on a plane, you say that’s not okay. Somebody walks into Texas or Arizona unvaccinated, they’re allowed to stay?”
  • “That’s not how it works. It’s not like someone walks over,” Jean-Pierre replied.
WH PRESS SECRETARY ON MIGRANTS ENTERING WITHOUT BEING VACCINATED BUT NOT PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES:

“Due to privacy reasons, the U.S. also does not comment on medical information of individual travelers as it relates to this tennis player,” Jean-Pierre said.

BACKGROUND:
  • Under the current rules of entry for the United States, tennis champion Novak Djokovic cannot participate in the U.S. Open because of his vaccination status.
  • U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) recently wrote a letter to Rochelle Walensky, M.D., the director of the CDC, asking that the organization to remove its COVID policies and allow Djokovic to play.
  • “Americans are ready to move beyond the pandemic and its endless list of rules, but the Biden Administration wants a forever pandemic,” Blackburn’s letter reads. “By barring Novak Djokovic from competing in the U.S. Open, the Biden Administration is making it clear that it would like to impose a forever pandemic.”
  • Illegal immigrants are still allowed full entry into the United States without proof of vaccinations or negative COVID tests.
