House Oversight Subpoenas Pam Bondi

The House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding possible mismanagement of the Epstein files.

“The Committee has questions regarding the Department of Justice’s handling of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates and its compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act,” Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) wrote. “As Attorney General, you are directly responsible for overseeing the Department’s collection, review, and determinations regarding the release of files pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and the Committee therefore believes that you possess valuable insight into these efforts.”

Bondi is to appear for a deposition on April 14.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice condemned the subpoena, calling it “completely unnecessary.

“Lawmakers have been invited to view the unredacted files for themselves at the Department of Justice, and the Attorney General has always made herself available to speak directly with members of Congress. She continues to have calls and meetings with members of Congress on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which is why the Department offered to brief the committee tomorrow,” the spokesperson said. “As always, we look forward to continuing to provide policymakers with the facts.”

Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will participate in a private briefing with the Committee on March 18.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) previously threatened to hold Bondi in contempt of Congress over what he said was an inadequate release of the Epstein files. “They’re flouting the spirit and the letter of the law,” Massie said during an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“You know, I said in the hours leading up to this release that we will know if they are complying, if they implicate any of the other criminals that are involved (…) and they’ve never been mentioned,” he said.
