The House Oversight Committee announced that it has launched an investigation into Vice President Kamala Harris’ role as “border czar” amid the ongoing border crisis.
“The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating Vice President Harris’s role in effectuating the worst border crisis in American history,” the committee wrote in a letter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy Miller.
“Since the Biden-Harris Administration assumed office, there have been more than 8 million illegal aliens encountered entering the country through the southwest border and over 1.6 million ‘gotaways.’ The mass illegal migration under the Biden-Harris Administration has contributed to murders, sexual assaults, and serious bodily injuries committed against numerous Americans at the hands of illegal aliens,” the letter adds. “The Committee requests documents and communications to understand Vice President Harris’s role in the worst border crisis in American history.”
The letter described Harris’ actions on border security as “abysmal” and an “abject failure.”
Harris has also compared U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the Ku Klux Klan, the committee noted.
“It is unclear what actions, if any, Vice President Harris has taken to fix the border crisis. Rather, she has claimed that ‘[w]e have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation,’” Comer wrote.
“The Committee seeks to understand whether Vice President Harris has ‘done anything’ to address the worst border crisis in American history,” he continued, requesting that Miller provide records between CBP and Harris’ office as they relate to the border or immigration.
Last month, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) introduced a resolution that condemned Vice President Kamala Harris’ role as “border czar.”
“Biden’s open border czar Kamala Harris, and every elected Democrat is responsible for this border crisis and they must all be held accountable for their role in jeopardizing our national security and turning every community into a border community,” Stefanik said. “Millions of illegals have poured into our country because of the Biden-Harris Administration’s unconstitutional, illegal executive actions, wiping away President Donald Trump’s effective border security policies which created the most secure border in modern history.”
