House Approves Bill Banning ‘War on American Energy’

The House of Representatives passed a bill protecting American energy production by prohibiting a federal moratorium on fracking.

Rep. August Pfluger’s (R-TX) bill, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, passed 226 to 188.

Upon introducing the bill last month, Pfluger said, “The Biden Administration has spent the last four years attacking the American energy industry, most recently attempting to shut it down by banning almost all new U.S. offshore drilling projects. It will be up to Republicans and President Trump to reestablish American energy independence and dominance in the 119th Congress.”

“This is why my first piece of legislation in the 119th Congress will protect the American energy industry and consumers from the federal government,” he said. “The Protecting American Energy Production Act will prevent any federal moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing and in turn, protect thousands of jobs for TX-11 and across America.”

The bill declares that the U.S. President “may not declare a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing unless such moratorium is authorized by an Act of Congress.”

Following the bill’s approval, House Speaker Mike Johnson said House Republicans are “putting an end to the Democrats’ war on American energy. Today’s passage of the Protecting American Energy Production Act helps restore American energy dominance and protects the jobs of hardworking men and women.”

“This bill ensures fracking will remain an essential tool in our nation’s energy production, allowing us to harness regions like the Permian Basin rather than turning to foreign adversaries for our energy needs, and helping to fully unleash America’s energy potential,” he said.
