Dozens of Hollywood elites who’ve championed climate change action arrived in Venice this week aboard private jets to celebrate Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s $50 million, three-day wedding celebration. The A-list guest list included Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Mick Jagger, Orlando Bloom, and Katy Perry—all of whom have publicly urged the public to reduce carbon emissions.
Despite those calls, Business Insider reported Kardashian arrived in her $65 million Gulfstream G650, while Winfrey landed earlier this week in a G700 with longtime friend Gayle King. Climate-conscious messaging didn’t stop dozens of others from using carbon-heavy travel to reach the “Floating City.”
Sir Elton John, who owns an apartment in Venice, was expected to perform at the event, alongside Lady Gaga. Meanwhile, billionaire Hollywood executive Ari Emanuel—who once publicly lectured President Donald Trump about climate dangers—reportedly flew in aboard a Global 6000 jet registered to his firm, Endeavor Group Holdings.
Other high-profile attendees included Queen Rania of Jordan, Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump, Usher, and fashion designer Spencer Antle. According to Italian reports, more than 100 private jets touched down at Marco Polo Airport for the event.
The mass private-jet arrival for a lavish celebrity gathering stands in stark contrast to the climate messaging many of these stars have publicly promoted. Oprah once declared, “The future of life as we know it depends on our ability to fight climate change.” Their carbon-intensive travel raises questions about whether those advocating lifestyle sacrifices for the climate are willing to make them themselves.
