War Secretary Pete Hegseth rejected a report that claimed the United States is running low on several key missile interceptors.
Sharing an image of the CNN report, Hegseth wrote on X, “That banner is NOT TRUE, CNN. Shame on you. We don’t hate the Fake News media enough.” The banner read, “Sources: U.S. has used nearly 80% of key missile interceptors in Iran war, top commanders warn stockpiles dangerously low.”
According to a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the U.S. has used about half its initial inventory of three of its munitions. Despite the usage, “enough remains for any plausible scenario in the war against Iran,” the report said.
Earlier this year, President Trump declared on Truth Social that the United States has a “virtually unlimited supply” of weapons as action against Iran continues.
“The United States Munitions Stockpiles have, at the medium and upper medium grade, never been higher or better – As was stated to me today, we have a virtually unlimited supply of these weapons. Wars can be fought ‘forever,’ and very successfully, using just these supplies (which are better than other countries finest arms!),” Trump wrote. “At the highest end, we have a good supply, but are not where we want to be. Much additional high grade weaponry is stored for us in outlying countries.”
Meanwhile, the Department of War announced this week that it will work with Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin to secure about 14,000 more Patriot Advanced Capability-3 and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor components.
