Harvard Professor Warns Against Dangerous Rhetoric Following Incident Involving Trump

Alan Dershowitz, a distinguished professor emeritus at Harvard Law School, expressed concern to Newsmax over remarks made by Rachel Vindman, which appeared to minimize an attack targeting former President Donald Trump. According to Dershowitz, while Vindman’s comments are troubling, a greater threat lies in individuals believing that assassinating Trump would earn them accolades and esteem.

Rachel Vindman, married to Democratic congressional hopeful Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, caught attention with a post on her X profile this Sunday. In her post, “No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon,” she referred to a July 2024 incident where Trump narrowly escaped harm during an event in Butler, Pennsylvania, with a bullet grazing his ear. The post was later deleted.

Dershowitz highlighted the mindset of individuals like the suspect apprehended in Florida, suggesting they might think their actions would be celebrated in some circles. In his discussion on “Newsline,” Dershowitz pointed out, “Maybe not publicly, but among their friends and otherwise why would this potential assassin have brought a video camera,” implying the assailant sought recognition for disrupting Trump’s chance at the presidency.

He further criticized the dangerous parallels drawn between Trump and notorious historical figures, such as Hitler, arguing that such comparisons can incite actual violence. Dershowitz believes, “Jokes are one thing. They just show terrible bad taste. But when you use violent rhetoric, it can really encourage people to engage in violent actions.”
