Greene Sparks Controversy with ‘Repentance’ Message Tied to Earthquake and Eclipse

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, known for her staunch support of the “Make America Great Again” movement, faced renewed criticism this weekend after doubling down on her assertion that “earthquakes and eclipses” are divine signals urging repentance.

Greene returned to social media platform X on Sunday following mockery of her earlier post, which linked a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New York and New Jersey to a call for repentance.

“The earthquakes and the eclipses and many more things to come, God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent,” Greene tweeted on Friday, referencing the upcoming solar eclipse scheduled for Monday.

Responding to the backlash she received, Greene reiterated her stance on Sunday, acknowledging the mockery and referencing biblical scripture.

“Many have mocked and scoffed at this post and even put community notes,” she wrote. “Jesus talked about that in Luke 12:54-56.”

While Greene acknowledged the predictability of eclipses and the natural occurrence of earthquakes, she insisted that these phenomena serve as divine messages for believers.

The congresswoman’s initial post drew criticism from X users, with one referencing allegations of infidelity against Greene.

“You just don’t know when to quit, do you?” one user wrote. “While you’re at it, you should look up what Jesus talked about in Hebrews 13:4 regarding adultery and adulterers.”

Another user dismissed Greene’s claims as “ridiculous” and urged her to focus on legislative matters instead of spreading “end of times rhetoric.”

“The United States is already divided,” the user added. “We don’t need our elected leaders to further that division.”

Greene, a vocal advocate for conservative causes, has frequently drawn controversy for her statements and actions since taking office.
