DISNEY CEO ON NEWSOM’S DECISION TO KEEP DISNEY CLOSED IN 2020:

“Unfortunately, we’re extremely disappointed that the state of California continues to keep Disneyland closed.”

BACKGROUND:
  • Critics of Newsom immediately took to Twitter, some pointing out the homelessness crisis in the state of California, which has topped the highest level in the United States.
  • “You run the state with the highest level of poverty in the country. Your values suck,” Erielle Davidson of the International Law at George Mason Law School tweeted.
  • In July 2021, Disney announced it would be relocating over 2,000 employees from California to Florida because of its lack of state income tax among other business issues, such as collaborative efforts for the company, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said at the time.
  • “Disney left your financially oppressive state for a reason, Gavin. Many of them. You can’t possibly represent the values of workers when you’re second in the nation in households living paycheck-to-paycheck,” another user tweeted.
