Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a bus filled with between 75 and 100 illegal immigrants outside the Vice President’s Naval Observatory residence.
QUICK FACTS:
- The two buses with migrants from Del Rio, Texas, arrived near the residence in Washington, D.C. early Thursday morning.
- The group included migrants from multiple countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay.
- An organization called Sanctuary DMV picked up the migrants and took them to a local church to have them relocated, Fox News reported.
- “We’ve already set up a church and a location – a safe location for them to tell us where they need to go next, where they have relatives,” Carla Bustillos of Sanctuary DMV said.
- “I was surprised to see [the press] here before we could get here. So the press knew the location before we did, some of the volunteers,” Bustillos continued. “It’s very frustrating. We’re gonna make it happen, but it takes a lot of resources, a lot of effort.”
TEXAS GOV. ABBOTT ON SENDING MIGRANTS TO WASHINGTON, D.C.:
“We are sending them to the U.S. Capitol where the Biden administration will more immediately be able to address the needs of the people that they are allowing to cross our border,” Abbott said.
BACKGROUND:
- The new load of migrants comes just hours after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would be sending two planes full of illegals to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.
- “Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” the governor’s communications director told Fox News Digital.
- “States like Massachusetts, New York and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden administration’s open border policies,” she continued.
- Earlier this month, Abbott sent 50 migrants to Chicago, saying he will continue to send buses to sanctuary cities until the federal government secures the southern border.
