GOP Women Revolt Brewing, MTG Speaks Out

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) leveled sharp criticism at House Speaker Mike Johnson during an appearance on CNN’s The Situation Room Tuesday, accusing the Republican leadership of marginalizing women within the party and dismissing their legislative efforts.

Responding to a recent op-ed by fellow GOP Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), Greene said she agreed “completely” with Mace’s claim that GOP women are not being taken seriously, despite Speaker Johnson’s claim to be their “biggest champion.” Mace’s op-ed argued that female members are frequently sidelined in the legislative process and that this underrepresentation won’t change until leadership begins to value their input.

“I read her op-ed and I thought it was masterfully written. And she’s right,” Greene said. “It is extremely frustrating… that many of us women are not taken seriously, and our legislation is not taken seriously.”

Greene pointed to recent examples of female Republican lawmakers clashing with Speaker Johnson over key legislative priorities. She highlighted Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s stalled discharge petition, which aims to reform congressional stock ownership rules, and Rep. Elise Stefanik’s public battle with leadership over an amendment she authored.

“You’re seeing Republican women lash out directly at the Speaker because he sidelines us and doesn’t take us seriously,” Greene said.

When asked about the potential for a “women’s revolt” in the GOP, Greene didn’t rule it out, saying the ongoing frustration could push more female lawmakers to speak out. “I don’t know how [Speaker Johnson] can speak out of one side of his mouth but his actions fully show the hypocrisy,” she said.

The mounting tension comes amid broader unrest in the GOP conference, with rank-and-file members increasingly frustrated over stalled priorities, leadership dynamics, and internal divisions. Greene’s remarks suggest the dissatisfaction among Republican women could become a flashpoint in the months ahead.

In a separate CNN interview on The Situation Room, Greene also addressed recent personal attacks from President Trump, who called her “not America First or MAGA” and “a very dumb person.” Greene responded by saying she felt sorry for Trump, describing his behavior as “constantly so hateful” and filled with “vitriol” and “lies” aimed at manipulating political outcomes. While maintaining she forgives him as a Christian, Greene expressed concern that Trump’s rhetoric has led to serious threats against her and her family — a line she believes no leader should cross.
