Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) announced that he will send more troops to Texas’ southern border to aid in its continuing fight for border security.
“The crisis on the border is a national problem and it demands a national solution,” Kemp said. “But if the Biden administration continues to fail the American people then we have no choice but to step in.”
“Therefore, I’m announcing today that in addition to the Georgia guardsmen already stationed at the border, we will send reinforcements to Texas this spring who will assist with the construction of a forward command post on the border with Mexico.”
“This group of well-trained soldiers “include those with engineering, mechanical, and general purpose skills.”
Kemp told Fox News that “governers like me stand willing to help and be able to add resources to help [Biden secure the border]. We just need him to act.”
Other governors, including Ron DeSantis (R-FL), have supported Texas in its efforts to secure the southern border, sending members of the Florida State Guard and Florida National Guard to help the state place barriers.
In an announcement on X, DeSantis wrote, “Florida has been assisting at the southern border since 2021, and we are sending more support from both the @FLStateGuard & up to one battalion of @FLGuard. Their mission will be to assist Texas in erecting barriers at the border to stop the invasion of illegal aliens.”
