At least four people were killed and 151 injured in an attack on Crimea using ATACMS missiles supplied by the United States, which the Kremlin publicly blamed the United States for. Moscow also formally warned the American ambassador that reprisal would come.
Russian officials have stated that the conflict is at the most dangerous escalatory phase to date. The war in Ukraine has sparked the largest standoff between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
However, it goes too far to hold the United States directly responsible for a murderous attack on Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014 and now claims as its own even though the majority of the world believes it is a part of Ukraine.
“You should ask my colleagues in Europe, and above all in Washington, the press secretaries, why their governments are killing Russian children. Just ask them this question,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Russian sources claim that the attack on Sevastopol on Sunday claimed the lives of at least two youngsters. On a beach close to Sevastopol, people were seen fleeing, with several injured people being carried off on sun loungers.
Russia claimed that although American military experts had aimed and supplied data for the weapons, the weapons themselves had come from the United States. Regarding the attack, neither the US nor Ukraine have made any statements.
The claims that Washington is “waging a hybrid war against Russia and has actually become a party to the conflict” were made against U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy when Russia called her to the foreign ministry. Russia assured Tracy that the attack would “not go unpunished.” Undoubtedly, there will be reprisals.”
Although President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia does not wish to engage in combat with the United States-led NATO alliance, he has warned on multiple occasions of the possibility of a far wider battle involving the world’s major nuclear powers.
President of the United States Joe Biden has stated time and time again that he will not send American forces to fight in Ukraine. He also stated shortly after Russia invaded the country in 2022 that direct conflict between NATO and Russia would result in World War Three.
Putin frames the war in Ukraine as a part of a larger conflict with the United States, which he claims disregarded Moscow’s interests following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 and then planned to divide Russia and take its natural riches.
The war in Ukraine has been portrayed by Western and Ukrainian leaders as an imperialistic territory grab. Russia, in response, rejects that the West wants to destroy it and that it plans to invade any country that is a member of NATO.
The Kremlin has made multiple indications that it regards the actions as a significant escalation since the United States permitted Ukraine to use some American weapons against Russia and the United Kingdom suggested Kyiv could do the same with British weaponry.
Putin signed a mutual defense agreement with North Korea, ordered tactical nuclear weapons deployment drills, and suggested that Russia may position conventional missiles within striking range of the US and its allies.
Washington continues to forbid Kyiv from using long-range U.S.-supplied weapons, such as the ATACMS, which have a maximum range of 186 miles (300 km), against Russia.
In what he said would be a mirrored reaction to the West arming Ukraine, Putin stated on Thursday that Russia might provide weapons to North Korea.
When asked about Russia’s response to the Crimean assault, Peskov brought up President Putin’s remarks from June 6 regarding the transfer of conventional weaponry to areas close to the United States and its allies.
“Of course, the involvement of the United States in the fighting, as a result of which peaceful Russians are dying, cannot but have consequences,” Peskov stated. “Which ones exactly – time will tell.”
