Ford Walks Back on DEI Policies

The Ford Motor Company announced that it is scaling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

Conservative activist Robby Starbuck obtained an internal memo sent to Ford employees, which declared that the company would end “external cultural surveys,” such as the Human Rights Campaign’s [HRC] Corporate Equality Index.

The memo said Ford “does not utilize hiring quotas or tie compensation to the achievement of specific diversity goals.” It will also not use quotas for minority dealerships or suppliers.”

“As a global company, we will continue to put our effort and resources into taking care of our customers, our team, and our communities versus publicly commenting on the many polarizing issues of the day,” the statement adds. “There will be times when we will speak out on core issues if we believe our voice can make a positive difference.”

Ford is the latest company to reverse course on its DEI policies, joining Lowe’s, Harley-Davidson, Jack Daniel’s, John Deere, and Tractor Supply.

“We will not sponsor and participate in community events that are outside of this scope, such as festivals, parades and fairs. However, should they wish to do so, associates are welcome to engage in their communities and participate in events and activities in their personal capacity,” Lowe’s wrote in an email obtained by Starbuck.

Harley-Davidson released a similar statement earlier this month, declaring that it has not “operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today.”
