An Islamic cleric in South Florida sparked national outrage after delivering a sermon claiming the United States deserves mass punishment from Allah and has only been spared out of “honor” for devout Muslims living in the country. The same sermon included vulgar attacks against President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with sweeping denunciations of Americans and non-Muslims.
The sermon was delivered earlier this month at the North Miami Islamic Center in Miami, Florida, by Dr. Fadi Yousef Kablawi. Kablawi told congregants that the United States has committed so much injustice around the world that it warrants divine punishment on a large scale. He argued that civilizations guilty of far less wrongdoing were destroyed in the past, while America has so far avoided similar judgment.
Kablawi said the reason, in his view, is not mercy toward the nation but respect for Muslims living within it. He told the audience that Allah is withholding punishment out of honor for Muslims who are practicing their faith properly while residing in the United States. He emphasized that this protection applies only to devout Muslims and not to Americans as a whole.
The sermon then turned into a broad attack on Americans and non-Muslims, with Kablawi using crude language and insults. He accused Americans of being unclean and mocked them while referencing Somalis, claiming their feet were cleaner than the faces of American leaders. He directed particular hostility toward President Donald Trump, calling him “human garbage.”
Kablawi also targeted Secretary of State Marco Rubio, mocking him with slurs and deriding his warnings about radical Islam and the threat of a future Islamic caliphate. He ridiculed Rubio for raising concerns about extremism, suggesting that even the idea of a caliphate causes fear among American leaders.
The sermon was originally livestreamed by the mosque and later circulated more widely after being translated and published by an organization that monitors extremist rhetoric in Islamic media. The footage has since raised renewed scrutiny of Kablawi’s public statements.
Kablawi, a dentist who immigrated to the United States from Jordan, has a documented history of inflammatory rhetoric. In past sermons, he has referred to Jews using dehumanizing language, prayed for the destruction of Zionists, praised the idea of seizing Jewish land and property, and compared Zionists and their supporters in Washington to Nazis. He has also declared that Republicans and Democrats are equally corrupt, claiming both parties are controlled by Satan.
In previous remarks, Kablawi has praised jihad, endorsed the establishment of Shari’a law as “freedom for mankind,” and asserted that the United States belongs to Allah rather than to its citizens. Despite this record, he continues to preach openly in South Florida.
