FBI High Alert After U.S.–Iran Escalation

The FBI is on high alert following coordinated U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran overnight, with federal and local law enforcement agencies ramping up security measures across the country.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau is “fully engaged on the situation overseas” and has directed its counterterrorism and intelligence teams to be on heightened alert.

“I have directed our counterterrorism and intelligence teams to be on high alert and mobilize security assets needed,” Patel said in a statement.

He added that the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces nationwide are actively working to “address and disrupt any potential threats to the homeland” in response to escalating tensions.

The heightened posture comes after President Donald Trump announced major combat operations against Iran under Operation Epic Fury, prompting concerns about possible retaliatory threats.

The U.S. Secret Service also confirmed it is closely monitoring developments.

“The U.S. Secret Service is actively monitoring the situation in Iran and remains in close coordination with our federal, state, and local partners,” the agency said in a statement.

Local law enforcement departments in major cities echoed similar messaging, emphasizing preparedness while noting there are currently no specific threats.

The Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department said it is prepared to increase its presence if necessary.

“At this time, there are no known threats to D.C. We are prepared to increase our presence as needed,” MPD said.

In New York City, the New York Police Department announced enhanced patrols as a precautionary measure.

“As is our protocol and out of an abundance of caution, we will be enhancing patrols to sensitive locations throughout the city, including diplomatic, cultural, religious and other relevant sites,” the NYPD said in a post on X.

Authorities have stressed that the measures are precautionary and part of standard protocol during periods of heightened international tension.
