Fauci’s Security Detail Terminated

President Donald Trump terminated the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci’s taxpayer-funded security detail.

Asked by a reporter if he had any comment on the termination of Fauci’s security, Trump said, “When you work for government, at some point, your security detail comes off and you can’t have them forever. So I think it’s very standard.”

“You can’t have a security detail for the rest of your life because you worked for government,” he added.

Trump was then asked if he would feel “partially responsible if something were to happen” to Fauci or former national security advisor John Bolton.

“No,” Trump responded. “You know, they all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security, too. All the people you’re talking about, they can go out – I can give them some good numbers of very good security people – they can hire their own security. They all made a lot of money. Fauci made a lot of money. They all did so if they felt that strongly – certainly I would not take responsibility,”

according to a November report from Open the Books. Fauci received $15 million in taxpayer-funded security since his retirement.

According to the memo, protection was available between January 2, 2023, and September 30, 2024.

“This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sets forth the understanding of the obligations and goals of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the United States Marshals Service (USMS) relating to protective services for Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases prior to and after his retirement from federal service,” the document says.

It adds that the MOU “may be extended or renewed for future fiscal years by the mutual, written consent of both parties.”
