Elementary School in Texas Celebrates ‘Pride Week’

Doss Elementary School in Austin, Texas participated in celebrating ‘Pride Week’ this week, telling students to keep quiet about the event.

QUICK FACTS:
  • A video of a “Pride parade” was shared by Doss Elementary’s principal yesterday, reportedly displaying students and teachers walking through the halls with LGBTQ artwork, National File reported.
  • One of the main rules of the week was that students were told not to share anything about the week.

BACKGROUND:
  • One of the ‘rules’ of the week violated Texas state law, which makes it illegal for “any school district employee to encourage or coerce a child to withhold information from the child’s parent” and “is grounds for discipline under Section 21.104.”
  • The popular Twitter account @LibsofTikTok made a point to tweet the principal and superintendent of Doss Elementary, informing them of the law they are breaking and asking them to “explain.”
