Ed Martin, the Department of Justice’s pardon attorney and former head of the weaponization working group, is facing an ethics charge after he allegedly engaged in improper conduct with Georgetown University.
Washington, D.C., Disciplinary Counsel Hamilton P. Fox III filed a complaint against Martin that involves material from a letter to the dean of Georgetown University Law Center. Martin “inquired whether Georgetown Law had eliminated all DEI [diversity, equity, and inclusion] from its school and curriculum and, if DEI was found in the school’s courses or curriculum, would Georgetown Law move swiftly to remove it.” He later stated that he was “imposing sanctions” on Georgetown Law.
“Mr. Martin knew or should have known that, as a government official, his conduct violated the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States,” Fox added.
Martin later wrote to the judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, which Fox argued was an improper communication.
The Justice Department told CBS News that the D.C. bar’s “attempt to target and punish those serving President Trump while refusing to investigate or act against actual ethical violations that were committed by Biden and Obama administration attorneys is a clear indication of this partisan organization’s agenda.”
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement on the disciplinary proceedings, “The DC Bar is such a blatantly Democrat-run political organization. Thank God I’m not a member, and trust me, I never will be.”
In June, Martin revealed that he launched an investigation into former President Joe Biden’s autopen signatures for the clemency granted his family members and death row inmates.
