Disney Animated Series Features Christian Prayer

An animated series from Disney Pixar features a Christian prayer, the company’s first since 1996.

The series, called “Win or Lose,” is set in the world of Pixar’s “Inside Out” movie franchise and follows a middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game, the Christian Post reports.

In the show’s first episode, the daughter of the team’s coach prays for strength. The character, Laurie, says, “Dear Heavenly Father, please give me strength. I have faith, but sometimes the doubt creeps in. I promise I’ll be good, and I uh, won’t do that thing again. I’m not sure where you stand on it, but I won’t do it. I just want to catch a ball. Or get a hit. For my team, of course.”

The scene is the first Christian prayer since Disney’s 1996 “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” which features a song titled “God Help the Outcasts.”

A scene discussing religion and church was also featured in Disney’s 2007 “Bridge to Terabithia.”

The addition of a Christian character in “Win or Lose” follows Disney pulling a transgender character from the show in December. A Disney spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter at the time: “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”

American Faith reported that Disney pulled two of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. The company removed its “Reimagine Tomorrow” program, according to its 2024 10-K Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) report. Disney also removed its “Disney Look” appearance guidelines from the DEI portion of the SEC filing.
