Twenty-two Democratic senators have been accused of sharing nearly identical scripted speeches hours ahead of President Donald Trump’s address to Congress.
The speeches, featuring vulgarity, attack Trump for inflation and cuts to federal government programs.
“Since Day One of Donald Trump’s Presidency, prices are up, not down,” the senators say. “Inflation is getting worse, not better.”
“He’s pardoned violent criminals who have savagely beaten police officers on January 6th,” the videos state, going on to condemn Trump for “letting Elon Musk take a chainsaw to government programs.”
“And then even worse, giving him access to vital government programs,” the videos say.
“Trump, Musk, and Republicans are taking services away from you so they can fund tax breaks for billionaires like them,” the senators add. “The Republican plan is simple: families lose and billionaires win. And that’s the truth.”
There were only minor differences in phrasing across the twenty-two videos.
Republicans condemned the scripted content, with Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) saying, “It’s almost like someone’s telling Democrats what to say.”
Fox News reports that the theme of Trump’s speech is the “Renewal of the American Dream.” The speech will focus on Trump’s accomplishments, economic successes, border security funding, and desire for peace.
“President Trump has accomplished more in one month than any president in four years, and the renewal of the American Dream is well underway,” Leavitt told the outlet. “In his joint address to Congress, President Trump will celebrate his extraordinarily successful first month in office while outlining his bold, ambitious and commonsense vision for the future.”
“TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE BIG. I WILL TELL IT LIKE IT IS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Monday morning, teasing his Tuesday speech.
