Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced that he introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump for his proposal to take over Gaza.
“Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke,” Green said, adding that “ethnic cleansing has been a crime against humanity.”
“Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” he said. “I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
“I also rise to say that the impeachment movement is going to be a grass-up movement, not a top-down. The people have got to move forward. The people have to demand it,” Green declared. “And when the people demand it, it will be done.”
Trump announced that the U.S. would “take over the Gaza Strip” and “own it,” arguing that Palestinians should permanently resettle elsewhere. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said Gaza should not be rebuilt but instead redeveloped into an economic hub.
“The U.S. will take over Gaza, dismantle unexploded bombs, level destroyed buildings, and create jobs and housing,” Trump stated. “We’ll do a real job, something different.”
Netanyahu called Trump’s proposal “worthwhile to pursue” but did not explicitly endorse it. Asked whether U.S. troops would be sent to Gaza, Trump said, “If necessary, we’ll do that.” He described Gaza as a potential “Riviera of the Middle East,” where “world people” could reside, including Palestinians.
A group backed by left-wing donor organizations recently called for an impeachment inquiry to be launched against President Donald Trump.
Legal nonprofit Free Speech For People started the campaign almost immediately following Trump’s inauguration.
Free Speech For People Co-founder and President John Bonifaz said on January 20, “We have just launched a new campaign calling for an impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump for offenses he has already committed upon taking the oath.”
