Dem Voting for ICE Now Wants Noem Removed

Rep. Laura Gillen (D-NY) has called for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to be removed following another ICE-related shooting.

“Another U.S. citizen has been killed at the hands of ICE and there must be accountability, which is why Secretary Noem must be impeached immediately,” Gillen wrote on X. “Under her leadership, ICE has targeted U.S. citizens and children and killed Americans. She is not focused on safety or border security; she’s focused on chaos and self-promotion, undermining local law enforcement and stoking violence as a result.”

“The American people deserve better,” she added.

Gillen’s comments follow her voting in support of a bill funding ICE. She was one of seven Democrats moving to fund the agency, joined by Reps. Tom Suozzi (NY), Henry Cuellar (TX), Don Davis (NC), Jared Golden (ME), Vicente Gonzalez (TX), and Marie Glusenkamp Perez (WA).

Explaining her vote, the Democrat said, “Let us be clear: this bill is about funding FEMA disaster relief, about stopping child trafficking and the spread of fentanyl in our communities and strengthening our cybersecurity and law enforcement.”

“I support funding our immigration enforcement and the commonsense guardrails that have been included in this package. I’m shocked my colleagues would vote to cut off national and community security funding while leaving ICE to operate under the status quo,” she said. “Importantly, this bill also funds security grants that protect houses of worship from violence and funds the Office of Civil Rights. I voted to protect our nation and American lives. I urge the Senate to pass this bill swiftly.”
