CVS, Walgreens Offering Abortion Pills

Pharmacy chains CVS and Walgreens are offering mifepristone to customers in 6 Democratic states.

Mifepristone, an abortion pill, allows women to end their pregnancy without seeking a clinic.

CVS will sell the drug in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, while Walgreens will sell the drug in New York, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

“With major retail pharmacy chains now certified to dispense mifepristone, many women will soon have a new option for accessing prescribed FDA-approved medication abortion,” Biden said on the POTUS X account. “I encourage all pharmacies that want to pursue this option to seek certification and help ensure that women can access the health care they need.”

CVS spokeswoman Amy Thibault told the New York Times that the drugs will come to stores “in the weeks ahead.”

“We continually monitor and evaluate changes in state laws and will dispense mifepristone in any state where it is or becomes legally permissible to do so,” Thibault added.

American Faith reported in October that New York City launched a virtual abortion-on-demand program.

Mayor Adams stated, “Here in New York City, we will not allow the far right to continue its crusade to strip women of their reproductive rights,” elaborating that New Yorkers can now access “abortion care” from their homes through telehealth consultations under the city’s “Virtual Express Care” program.

This program, available seven days a week from 9am to 9pm, facilitates virtual consultations for women up to 10 weeks pregnant seeking medical abortions.

Following the online appointment, if the treatment is deemed “clinically appropriate and prescribed,” the necessary pills will be shipped to the patient’s address “within a few days,” according to the press release.
