Dr. Robert Redfield, former CDC Director under President Donald Trump, expressed approval of the White House’s recent acknowledgment that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The report criticizes Dr. Anthony Fauci for suppressing the lab leak theory to protect gain-of-function research.
During an interview with Newsmax, Redfield shared, “I’m glad that they’ve come out clearly, not ambiguously, said that it came from the lab. I think we’re going to see the rest of the intelligence agencies redo their analysis between now and July, and they’ll all conclude unanimously that it came from the lab. Get this behind us… This virus was created by gain-of-function research. And it was funded, unfortunately, by the United States government.”
Redfield, who led the CDC from 2018 to 2021, stated that the virus was created through gain-of-function research funded by the U.S. government. He supports a global moratorium on such research and urges congressional investigations into the suppression of the lab leak theory.
Still speaking regarding imposing a global moratorium, Redfield stated: “I think Trump’s going to do that, I’ve been told soon — it can’t be soon enough — and provide leadership, you know, in the United States and hopefully, the rest of the world, that we shouldn’t be intentionally trying to make pathogens more infectious, more dangerous for humans. It’s not a smart use of our scientific capacity.”
“And so hopefully, we’ll do that and then hopefully, we’ll begin to block any funding that goes to gain-of-function research or any institutions that do it or any countries that are involved,” he added.
The White House report aligns with Redfield’s long-held belief that the virus did not emerge naturally but was engineered to be more infectious to humans. He emphasized the need to halt funding for gain-of-function research and to hold accountable those who promoted alternative narratives.
