Congressman Honors ‘Power of the Cross’ in Flood Aftermath

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) celebrated the “heroism” seen in Texas following the devastating flood and rescue efforts in an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Congressman, this is your district. How are people doing? There is still so much left unresolved and so much healing that will take a lifetime,” host Shannon Bream asked.

“Thanks for all the outpouring of support and prayer from all over the country. I am deeply appreciative of the President of the United States coming to our district, coming to Kerrville on Friday. I was proud to be down there touring the grounds with him,” Roy said, explaining that the “real story” beyond the political finger-pointing is the “heroism of those who showed up.”

“When you drive into Kerrville, Shannon, there is an enormous cross on the hill. And if you ask me what the story of this whole tragedy is, it’s the cross and it’s the power of the cross that people, these families that have had a strong and enduring faith,” the congressman added.

“It is a powerful testimony to the gospel of Christ and how a community can come together in strength through tragedy, even as we mourn,” he said.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited Central Texas last week to assess flood damage and offer their support to local residents.

A Kerrville, Texas, resident called the damages “devastating.”

“It’s horrible, but our president’s here — he’s supporting us,” the woman said. “He’s sending whatever support he can for us.”
