China issued a warning to countries seeking to make trade deals with the United States, threatening them with potential countermeasures.
A spokesman for China’s commerce ministry said that the United States has “abused tariffs on all its trading partners under the banner of so-called ‘reciprocity,’ while at the same time forcing all parties to start so-called ‘reciprocal tariff negotiations’ with it.”
“Appeasement cannot bring peace, and compromise cannot be respected,” the spokesman added. “To seek so-called exemptions at the expense of others’ interests for one’s own temporary selfish interests is to seek the skin of a tiger, which will ultimately only end up in vain and harm others without benefiting oneself.”
“It should be pointed out in particular that China firmly opposes any party to reach a deal at the expense of China’s interests. If this happens, China will never accept it and will resolutely take countermeasures in a reciprocal manner,” the ministry’s spokesman declared. “China is determined and capable of safeguarding its own rights and interests.”
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that many leaders and business executives have “come to me asking for relief from Tariffs.”
“It’s good to see that the World knows we are serious, because WE ARE! They must right the wrongs of decades of abuse, but it won’t be easy for them,” he wrote on Truth Social. “We must rebuild the Wealth of our Great Country, and create true RECIPROCITY. But for those who want the easiest path: Come to America, and build in America!”
China announced earlier this month that its tariffs on U.S. goods would “be adjusted from 84% to 125% from April 12, 2025″ in response to Trump’s tariffs.
