China Meets With Hamas: ‘Keen on Relations’

China sent a group to Qatar to meet with the head of Hamas and reportedly said that the country is “keen on relations” with the terrorist group.

“On March 17, 2024, Ambassador Wang Kejian of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Hamas Politburo Chairman Haniyeh during his visit to Qatar and exchanged views on the Gaza conflict and other issues,” reads a statement.

During a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said, “Any arrangement concerning the future and destiny of Palestine must follow the principle of ‘the Palestinians governing Palestine’ and fully reflect the Palestinians’ aspirations. China stands ready to work with all parties to de-escalate the current tensions and bring the Palestinian question back to the right track of the two-state solution.”

According to The Jerusalem Post, Kejian told Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh that Beijing is “keen on relations” with the “Palestinian national fabric,” including Hamas. The ambassador emphasized the “close and historic relationship between the Palestinian and Chinese peoples and China’s firm positions towards the Palestinian issue and its standing by the just demands of the Palestinian people for freedom, independence, and statehood.”

Last month, a top Hamas representative told Hezbollah’s al-Manar news that Israel has “no future in the region.” The representative said there is “no compromise” on the subject.
